On behalf of the Statistical Conference 2008 (ASC2008)Planning Committee it is our pleasure to invite you to register for the 19th biennial Australian Statistical Conference 2008 (ASC2008) under the general theme ‘Celebrating Diversity’.

We are proud to welcome the conference to Melbourne and are delighted to be working collaboratively with colleagues from the Society’s Branches to bring you this conference.

The theme of ‘Celebrating Diversity’ is particularly appropriate given the ever-growing breadth of methods and applications for our discipline.

Melbourne, sometimes known as “the World’s Most Livable City”, is a lively and cosmopolitan setting for a statistical conference. City leaders strive actively to achieve an appropriate balance between livability for its residents and extending a warm welcome to visitors.

The timing of the conference is perfect as Melbourne boasts the arts, the theatre, Australian Football (AFL), the restaurants, cafes and much more, a truly special opportunity for delegates to enjoy the buzz of the city.

Melbourne is accustomed to extending a welcome to the rest of the world and we are confident that you will find plenty to enjoy whatever your interests in life.

For the 2008 conference, we anticipate hosting over 250 people with statistical interests from Australasia and across the world including the Americas, Oceania, Europe and Asia. We will present the latest developments in the theory and practice of statistics through presentations by leading national and international keynote speakers.

The Conference is the premier event on Australia’s statistical calendar in 2008 and should not be missed. Please note that a two-day registration option has been introduced to enable busy people to participate as much as they can.
