Prize Sessions
Gilbert Brown Prize
The Gilbert Brown Prize is awarded for the best paper in the session devoted to recent studies and developments. Eligibility is limited to Fellows of the College and its Faculties within eight (8) years of admission to Fellowship at the date of the meeting. Elected Fellows must be within 8 years of admission to their original Fellowship . The prize takes the form of a medal and will be accompanied by a grant of $1,000 for educational purposes. The Gilbert Brown Prize winner will also receive a certificate recognising the award. The prize will be awarded at the ASM dinner.
Formal Project Prize
The Formal Project Prize is awarded for the best paper in the session devoted to papers which relate to the Formal Project as defined in ANZCA Professional Document TE11. Eligibility is limited to Trainees, Provisional Fellows and Fellows within one (1) year of admission to Fellowship at the date of the Meeting. The prize will take the form of a medal The prize will take the form of a medal which will be accompanied by a certificate recognising the achievement and awarded at the ASM dinner.
FPM Dean’s Prize
The FPM Dean’s Prize is awarded for original work presented in the area of Pain, judged to be a significant contribution to Pain Medicine and/or Pain Research. Eligibility is limited to
Trainees of the Faculty of Pain Medicine, Trainees of the five Participating Professional Bodies of the FPM, or Fellows of FPM within eight (8) years of admission to their original Fellowship at the date of the meeting. Elected Fellows must be within eight years of admission to their original Fellowship. The prize takes the form of a certificate and a grant of $1,000 for educational or research purposes. The prize will be awarded at the FPM Annual General Meeting.
Please note that an abstract can be submitted for one prize session only.
Abstract Submission Details
- Only abstracts submitted in English will be reviewed.
- Abstracts should be original work, not previously presented at an international meeting.
- Abstracts must be no shorter than 250 words and no longer than 300 words and must be presented in the template below.
- Abstracts should have a short, descriptive title with no abbreviations.
- Abstracts may contain tables, pictures, diagrams and symbols.
- All abbreviations must be spelled out on first use.
- Abstracts should be thoroughly checked for spelling and grammar.
- Abstracts should contain the following headings: background, method, results, conclusion.
- Abstracts may be submitted as “Poster Only” or “Either Oral or Poster”.
- Abstracts must be submitted by 8 February 2008 for consideration by the program committee. Authors will be notified of acceptance or not on 15 March 2008.
- The deadline for earlybird registration is 15 March 2008.
- Abstracts are to be submitted in Microsoft Word format only and in the template provided.

- The submission of an abstract and the ticking of the box in the abstract submission form indicates an understanding of the following rules for participation in the ANZCA 2008 ASM
- All author(s) approve submitting this work for presentation.
- The author(s) transfer(s) all copyright ownership of the named abstract to the ANZCA 2008 ASM
- The Author(s) agree(s) to materially confine their presentations to information in the abstract if accepted for presentation; if an author has more than one abstract accepted each presentation will be materially confined to the information in the abstract selected for the specific session.
- At least one author will be available to present the abstract if selected for the program. The authors will immediately notify the ASM Secretariat if they are unable to present an abstract or if the presenting author is changed.
